News release: Horizons to participate in Third China International Import Expo (CIIE)

Acting locally to achieve global results, Horizons is an advisory for today’s global decision-makers

1 October 2020Horizons Corporate Advisory has been invited to exhibit at the Third China International Import Expo (CIIE) from 5-10 November 2020 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai. An international consulting firm with more than 30 years of experience in global business, Horizons is honoured to participate in this prestigious event.

The CIIE annual trade fair was first announced by President Xi Jinping at the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in 2017, with the first Expo held in November 2018. CIIE represents a significant government action in opening the Chinese market to the world. CIIE’s mission is to provide new channels for countries and regions to do business, strengthen cooperation and promote common prosperity of the world economy and trade.

This year marks Horizons first participation as a CIIE exhibitor. As part of the advisory’s exhibition, Horizons will deliver important information, key insights and strategic solutions related to global business at the local, national and international level.

Against the backdrop of COVID-19, multinational corporations have been forced to nimbly navigate through the coronavirus’ economic impact and emerge with a clear outlook for its future. Horizons, backed by a global network of professional advisors, including its cooperative partners in the China Collaborative Group (CCG), understands the complex challenges in cross-border business and its related multicultural nuances faced by today’s globally active corporations.

To this end, Horizons corporate solutions centre on working locally to achieve global results. The advisory employs a multi-faceted approach to building solid legal, tax and accounting structures while also giving consideration to the bridging cultural and language gaps in the whole of business investments start to finish. As a result, Horizons helps businesses thrive at home and abroad while safeguarding investments wherever they lie.

Dr. Danny Luk, Horizons Senior Equity Partner
We are confident in China’s economic development for the latter of 2020 and beyond,” says Danny Luk, Horizons senior equity partner. “Our participation in CIIE provides a significant opportunity for Horizons to showcase our more than 30 years’ experience in serving foreign enterprises entering China, as well as those already in China but looking to expand.

“With the enacting of the new Foreign Investment Law from the beginning of this year and revised Negative List, sector access has significantly widened for foreign investment in China. There are ample opportunities in the rapidly growing domestic market for foreign businesses, specifically in the area of eCommerce, finance, automotive and technology. We believe 2020 and beyond will represent a golden period for foreign investment.”

Dr. Roberto Gilardino, Horizons Regional Partner, Asia and Additional Countries
“Doing business in China can be easy, and with the recent reforms, foreign investment is transitioning into a new era,” says Roberto Gilardino, Horizons regional partner for Asia and additional countries. “One of the key challenges for many foreign businesses is maintaining governance of the foreign entity or mutual partnership with a China party through ‘the correct’ corporate advisors.

“Sustaining a profitable business in China means a proper and practical implementation of the laws, rules and regulations through an international professional team. At CIIE, we and our CCG association partners aim to utilise this excellent opportunity to address complex cross-border challenges with businesses and how they can apply practical solutions.”

Dr. Lucia Myriam Netti, CCG Association founding member & Horizons Regional Partner for EMEA, Russia, Belarus
“CIIE is both a unique experience and an incredible opportunity to build relationships with China,” says Lucia Netti, Horizons regional partner for EMEA, Russia and Belarus, as well as a founding member of CCG. “This year’s CIIE will be a particularly energetic event, as many companies looking to bounce back from the effects of COVID-19 view China as having handled the pandemic exceptionally well. That said, foreign companies are looking to China and the best ways to approach the China market. These combined have allowed the Chinese economy to not only bounce back domestically, but also move forward with its cross-border ambitions.

“The CCG platform is all about true cross-border cooperation. As our motto goes, we work locally to achieve global results. Our members are committed to a service model that succeeds by giving equal weight to cross-cultural respect and awareness and business deals and all their related aspects. CCG’s value is to serve clients with a one-team approach free of barriers. This results in comprehensive solutions for managing investment projects, meeting business needs while in full compliance with all applicable laws.”

Last year CIIE attracted over 3,800 enterprises, with participation from more than 180 countries. Through CIIE, there was a total value of 71.13 billion USD in intended deals signed. This year’s CIIE boasts a larger exhibition area for enterprises at 360,000 square meters – 60,000 square metres larger than the last year.

Horizons, with a multi-country network of legal, tax and business experts, can provide lean and effective solutions to support CIIE exhibitors and buyers. What’s more, our international team can bridge the cultural and language barriers by comprehensively providing professional advice in both the language and culture backdrop best suited to the client.
